How should I take care of my retainer?
Most retainers are removable, meaning that you take them out when eating, brushing and flossing. For this reason, they are easy to misplace. Many people wrap their retainers in a napkin when eating, then forget about them afterwards and have to spend hundreds of dollars on a new retainer. A good solution is to always carry your retainer case with you and to use it whenever you’re not wearing your retainer. For added protection, never leave the case on a table or a bench — always put it immediately in your backpack, purse or pocket. http://ow.ly/i/1ZXQX
Are you scared about your appearance with braces?
Here at Rappahannock Orthodontics, we have Ceramic Braces.
Ceramic Braces are a treatment option that helps to create a more pleasing, less conspicuous appearance for orthodontic patients. The primary difference between ceramic and traditional braces has to do with the type of orthodontic brackets that are bonded to the patient’s teeth.
With ceramic braces, the brackets are clear or tooth-colored, not metal. (With both methods, there’s still a metal wire that runs across the patient’s teeth that’s held in place using elastic bands.) http://ow.ly/i/1ZXL2

Adults and Braces – Not Just for Kids Anymore:
Just hearing the word “braces” can take many of us back to junior high — that painful era when we wore unattractive glasses, endured unflattering haircuts, and carried a mouthful of braces to complete the awkward adolescent look. Despite the common assumption that braces are for kids, more and more adults are choosing to pursue orthodontics to correct their smiles.
A large percentage of our patients are adults, and they agree that it’s never too late to improve their greatest asset – their smile.

How long will it take to complete treatment?
Treatment time obviously depends on each patient’s specific orthodontic problem. In general, treatment times range from 12 to 30 months. The “average” time frame a person is in braces is approximately 22 months.
